JNU row: Lalu’s silence baffles many

February 16, 2016 02:30 am | Updated December 04, 2021 10:56 pm IST - Patna:

The silence of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad on the arrest of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Student’s Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who is from Bihar’s Begusarai district, and what is happening in the University campus, has come as a surprise for many in Bihar’s political corridors.

Others, however, see it differently. “Being a wily politician Lalu must be watching the JNU developments keenly but may prefer to keep mum as Kanhaiya comes from an upper caste and that too from a politically aggressive district like Begusarai. Supporting his [Kanhaiya’s] early release may not go down well with his political class,” said a CPI leader from Begusarai.
