Condemning the attack on civilians at Kolkarjhar’s Balajan Tinali market, former United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) chairman Arabinda Rajkowa said on Sunday that this was no revolution.

“We also have indulged in armed revolution, but killing of innocent people cannot be called revolution,” said Mr. Rajkowa who visited the market where 14 people were killed.

He urged the organisation behind this attack to refrain from targeting civilians. The ULFA chairman, who is in talks with the government, said that people of the region have been oppressed for centuries and deprived of development.

Asked who could be behind the attack, Mr. Rajkowa said that the police was claiming it was NDFB (S), but the organisation was denying it. “The government should address the concerns of the people quickly. Otherwise, more such incidents will happen,” he said.
