The Centre's interlocutors on Thursday reached out to the families of two sisters who were gunned down by militants in Sopore and a youth who was killed by the Army at Handwara in north Kashmir.
Dileep Padgaonkar, Radha Kumar and M.M. Ansari, who arrived here on a three-day visit on Wednesday, met on Thursday the family of Akhtara, 19, and Arifa, 17, who were killed on January 31. They said the visit was apolitical.
The meeting at Dak Bungalow lasted 20 minutes.
Mr. Padgaonkar told journalists that they would discuss the plight of the bereaved family with the Central and State governments. “We will seek relief for the family which lives in abject poverty.”
Later, the team visited Chogal village in Handwara, where the 21-year-old Manzoor Ahmad was killed by the Army in an ambush on February 5.
“We share your grief and irreparable loss. The whole India is with you, and justice will be delivered,” Ms. Radha Kumar told his mother.
The interlocutors said the Army admitted its mistake, and a magisterial inquiry was under way.
Ms. Radha Kumar said that as the inquiry was on they would again visit the family in April to know whether justice was delivered. They would also ask for relief to the family.
