Goods train derails in Jharkhand

October 08, 2010 05:21 pm | Updated 05:21 pm IST - Latehar

A goods train on Friday derailed between Demo and Pichuguta stations in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, disrupting rail movement on the Barkakhana-Garwah section.

Twenty eight wagons of the goods train, laden with coal, jumped the tracks this morning, affecting both the up and down lines, ECR sources said, adding several trains, including the Tata-Jammu Tawi, had to be diverted.

While the exact cause of derailment in the area, where Maoists were active in pockets, could not be ascertained, the possibility of removal of pandrol clips could not be ruled out, the sources said.

There was no report of injury or casualty.

Work was on to clear the tracks but it was unlikely the rail services would be restored till tomorrow, they said.
