NAGPUR: The Bhartiya Janata Party’s Nagpur president Sudhakar Kohle expelled 54 party members from the primary membership of the party for six years on Thursday, for “revolt” against the party.

The expelled members include the sitting BJP corporators of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, who had filed their nominations as Independents and from other parties, after being denied tickets by the BJP.

Chandan Goswami, the head of BJP’s publicity wing in Nagpur, said, “Efforts were made to talk to them and they were asked to withdraw their nominations. When they refused, they were expelled. We could not have our own party members contesting against the party nominees.” Incidentally, Mr. Goswami was also unhappy after his name did not figure in the list of official candidates for the NMC elections.
