Two Islamic State-J&K militants killed in Shopian operation

They were wanted for terror attacks.

Two Islamic State-J&K (ISJK) militants were killed in a pre-dawn operation in south Kashmir’s Shopian on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said the militants, Sayar Ahmad Bhat from Kulgam’s Yaripora and Shakir Ahmad Wagay from Shopian’s Awneera, were surrounded at Awneera in an early morning operation.

“During the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved,” said the police.

“The terrorists were inspired by IS ideology. They were wanted for their complicity in terror crimes, including attacks on security establishments,” the police added. Arms and ammunition were recovered, the police added.

Wagay, according to police records, was involved in the killing of civilian Irfan Hameed Sheikh of Zainapora.

In another operation, security forces has cordoned off Wadoora in Baramulla’s Sopore.

“We have established contact with the militants. The operation to neutralise them is on,” the police said.

Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter, the police added.

Wagay, according to police records, was involved in killing of civilian Irfan Hameed Sheikh of Zainapora.

In another operation, a joint team of security forces, including the Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and the police’s Special Operation Group has cordoned off Wadoora in Baramulla’s Sopore.

“We have established contact with the militants. The operation to neutralise militants is on,” police said.
