16 students injured in Pulwama blast

Sixteen students were injured in a blast at a private school in Pulwama on Wednesday. In a separate incident, two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including a known recruiter, were killed in Budgam by security forces.

The explosion inside a classroom at the Falai-e-Millat coaching centre in Pulwama’s Narbal area took place around 2.30 p.m.

“At least 16 students were injured in the blast. Around 10 grievously injured students were shifted to a Srinagar hospital. The rest are undergoing treatment at different medical facilities in Pulwama district and are stable,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Pulwama, Chandan Kohli said.

The police refrained from divulging any detail on the nature of the blast. “Police officers are ascertaining the nature and circumstances of the blast. A case has been registered and an investigation is in progress,” said the police.

The staff at a local public health centre at Pulwama’s Kakapora suggested that the students were hit by splinters, usually triggered by a grenade blast. “Most students were hit in their limbs,” said an official at the hospital.

2 militants killed

In a separate incident, security forces killed two militants in Budgam, a district adjacent to Pulwama.

“The two militants, Hilal Ahmad Wani and and Shoaib Muhammad Lone alias Mursi, were trapped after receiving credible inputs about their presence in Gopalpora in Budgam. Both the militants were killed in a gunfight,” said the police.

The police said the slain militants were affiliated to the Hizbul Mujahideen.
