In a fresh twist to the rape case filed against Deputy Inspector-General of Police Sunil Paraskar, the prosecution on Thursday alleged that his lawyer tried to reach an out-of-court settlement. Public prosecutor Kalpana Chavan made the claim while arguing against the anticipatory bail application filed by the officer in a Mumbai Sessions Court.

On July 24, a 26-year-old Gladrags model had lodged a complaint accusing the officer of raping and molesting her between November 2013 and March 2014.

“Mr. Rizwan Merchant [counsel for the accused] met the former lawyer of the victim, Mr. Rizwan Siddhique, at an Iftar party and offered money. How can a lawyer try for an out of court settlement?” Ms. Chavan said.
