Defending its editorial in which >it indirectly supported the rape accused IPS officer Sunil Paraskar, the Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana on Monday said that it stands by what was written on Saturday and those who doesn't understand Marathi distorted the editorial content.
"Certain electronic channels and print journalists are literally 'raping' journalism. Neither the press council nor the courts can stop this," said the editorial.
It added that >the Saamana will never stop reiterating the truth , no matter who says what. "What's wrong in our stand if we opposed the media trial in the rape case while the police investigation is in progress?" the editorial asked. It went on to add that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah and NCP president Sharad Pawar too had to go through media trials in different cases.
The editorial also clarified that it's stand against filing rape cases after several years was to inform that in such cases medical tests turn out to be useless.
On Saturday, the editorial asked that >why isn't that the police in this case aren't investigating the history of the model? "How did rape take place, if they (model and officer) had 'sweet' relations in the past? Did it take six months to (her) know that rape has been committed? These days no one raises questions as why rape cases are reported six months or two years after," the editorial said.
It has cited the examples of rape allegations against Bollywood director Madhur Bhandarkar, where he was acquitted of rape charge after a model filed a case against him. "But he had to run from post to pole to prove his innocence," it said.
