The police team probing the abduction and assault of a Malayalam film actor have recovered the cell phone and the SIM card allegedly used by the accused, Sunil Kumar Surendran, aka Pulsar Suni, to blackmail actor Dileep from the district jail in Kakkanad.

According to officials, the recovery followed the arrest of Vishnu and Sanal, fellow inmates of Suni in jail. Preliminary investigations suggested that the SIM card had been issued from a Tamil Nadu-based address.

Confession

During interrogation, Vishnu had confessed to smuggling the phone into the prison by hiding it underneath his shoes. The materials will soon be sent for forensic examination.

Contrary to earlier reports, it was Pulsar Suni and not Vishnu, who had contacted Appunni, a close aide of actor Dileep. During the conversation, the caller allegedly directed the actor to read a letter sent through Vishnu.

Official sources said Suni, during an interrogation, reportedly told police that content of the controversial letter was true. The police officers, however, are yet to buy this version as “Suni keeps changing his version of the story.”

The letter, addressing actor Dileep and also carrying the seal of the district jail, where Suni is currently lodged, was leaked a couple of days earlier. Though it emerged that Suni had not written the letter, the police suspect that Vishnu did it at his behest.

The special investigation team probing the case is now planning to record the statement of Dileep in connection with the case.

Support for Dileep

Meanwhile, several prominent film personalities, including actor Salim Kumar and filmmaker Lal Jose, have extended their support to Dileep. “The media is running the climax reel of a script, penned seven years ago, to damage the personal life of actor Dileep. The first twist in the script took place in 2013, culminating in his divorce,” read a Facebook post by Salim Kumar.

Dileep also posted a message on his Facebook account, expressing gratitude to Salim Kumar and Aju Varghese for their support.
