The Shivamogga City Corporation has decided to de-link the collection of solid waste management (SWM) fee from the process of issuance of trade licence to business establishments.

It may be mentioned here that, in 2014, Shivamogga City Corporation had made it mandatory to pay a fee for solid waste management for availing the trade licence. The trade and business organisations had opposed the decision on the grounds that, payment of fee for solid waste management in addition to the fee fixed for trade licence would prove to be a burden for commercial establishments. The meeting of the corporation on February 20, 2019, had also decided not to collect solid waste management fee for the issuance of trade licence.

The commissioner of the corporation said the payment of SWM fee has been de-linked from the process of issuance of trade licence. Business establishments can get the licence after payment of fee fixed for the purpose. Henceforth, the SWM fee would be collected with property tax under self assessment scheme (SAS), the commissioner said.
