Residents of Purale and nearby areas expressed their opposition to the proposal by Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewage Board to establish a sewage treatment plant (STP) nearby.

Prabhakar, president, Purale Nagarika Horata Samiti, told presspersons that it has been planned to establish a STP on two-acre gomala land in survey number 33/P1 near Purale. He said the proposed site is surrounded by Purale, Gurupura, Manjunatha Badavane localities that have a dense population. A medical college and a school are also here. Expressing apprehension that establishment of STP would be detrimental to the health of the people residing here, he demanded KUWSSB to drop the plan.

Alleging that KUWSSB has made preparations to execute the work without holding public meetings, he said that the no-objection certificate from Department of Health and Family Welfare was also not availed for the work. He said that the farmers in the vicinity were grazing the cattle reared by them in the gomala land identified for the establishment of STP.
