The district police have arrested a factory worker from Dharwad in connection with a recent double murder case at a petrol bunk in Kittur.

Bhimappa Mallappa Tirthappanavar, 24, of Kallapur in Dharwad taluk allegedly killed Manjunath Erappa Pattanashetty, 23, of Lingadalli, and Mustaq M. Beedi, 35, of Tigadolli, both workers at the bunk, while they were sleeping there. He then escaped with ₹50,000 from the bunk. His image was captured on one of the CCTV cameras there. The police circulated it to different police stations and identified him.

The accused had tried to commit the offence at 1.30 a.m. on the night of the crime, but dogs on the street started barking and Manjunath woke up. Bhimappa then went back to the bunk at 3 a.m., slit the throats of the two workers, and ran away with the money. After a complaint was filed, Superintendent of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy formed five teams to crack the case.

Bhimappa has been produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
