Forest fire destroys large tracts near Mudigere

A large extent of vegetation in Balur Reserve Forest near Mudigere was damaged owing to forest fire on Friday and Saturday.

The Forest Department staff have been making efforts to stop its spread. According to eyewitnesses, flames were seen in a small portion of a hilltop even on Sunday morning.

The fire, according to officials, occurred following spark in a high-tension wire passing through the area on Friday. The forest staff had put off the fire. However, it was spotted again in the area on Saturday. “The fire spread over 50 to 60 acres of grassland. Our staff have put it off with the help of local people and estate workers. They had been to the area on Sunday too,” said P.L. Prahlad, Range Forest Officer of Mudigere.
