Jitendra Singh, a 43-year-old journalist contributor to Hindi daily Prabhat Khabhar in Murhu in Khunti district, was shot dead by members of the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) — a breakaway faction of CPI (Maoist) active in Khunti, Simdega, Gumla districts — on Saturday.

He is alleged to have been killed by a group of 7-8 PLFI members over a dispute over demand of collection of levy in a contract that was awarded to Mr. Singh to build a road between Pasrabeda to Khatangahad in Khunti.
