Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was spreading hate and infusing fear psychosis among Hindus to return to power in the country.

Speaking at an election rally in Srinagar’s Khanyar area, Dr. Abdullah referred to the speeches made by Mr. Modi in elections rallies across the country. “Mr. Modi’s poll speeches are all about creating fear and hate among Hindus. He is telling them, ‘your mangalsutras will be snatched and sold to give money to Muslims’. Also, [he says] Muslims produce more children. He should know children are God’s gift. Hundreds of couples are childless in this country. Mr. Modi tells Hindus, if you have two houses, one will be snatched and handed over to Muslims. May the good Lord have mercy on him,” Dr. Abdullah said.

Most NC leaders have made the BJP and its anti-Muslim narrative central to their campaign in the Kashmir Valley.

Meanwhile, NC vice president Omar Abdullah, in his speeches, has alleged that except for the NC, all other parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Sajad Lone’s J&K Peoples Conference (JKPC), were being supported by the BJP in the ongoing elections.

Dr. Farooq Abdullah also highlighted the concerns of Kashmiri Pandits in his campaign speech, and blamed the BJP for the community’s suffering. “The BJP has been exploiting the suffering of Kashmiri Pandits for political gains. It never tried to address their grievances or ensure their rightful return and resettlement in their homeland,” Dr. Abdullah said.
