Prime Minister Narendra Modi told BJP MPs on Saturday the party was an “organic entity”, not an ‘assembled’ one and asked them to keep the ‘karyakarta’ or worker spirit alive after becoming MPs or Ministers.

Mr. Modi was speaking on day one of a two-day workshop for the MPs organised by the party here. Speaking to the media after Mr. Modi’s address, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said the Prime Minister told the MPs that the party was growing because of its ideology not “legacy of a family”.

Mr. Modi, Mr. Joshi said, told the MPs to keep the “worker spirit alive in their hearts” even after becoming MLAs, MPs and Ministers.

He said Mr. Modi spoke of the BJP’s recent victory in the panchayat elections in Tripura where it won 98% of the seats, saying if the organisation was strengthened, it can win such elections. Mr. Modi referred to a similar workshop conducted after the 2014 elections, when he was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time, and said it had been very beneficial for him, particularly the training on the House procedures, Mr. Joshi said.

The party was starting another initiative for MPs’ training by sending them in groups of 20-25 to meet Ministers over dinner to learn about government functioning, he said, adding that this would become a monthly feature.
