The Bihar government on Tuesday recommended a CBI probe into Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death .

On Monday, political leaders cutting across party lines demanded a CBI probe into the case in The Assembly.

“The state government has recommended the case lodged by K K Singh (father of late Sushant Singh Rajput) in death case of late Sushant Singh Rajput, for probe to CBI”, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar tweeted on Tuesday. Earlier, he told media persons that since the family members of Sushant Singh Rajput wanted a CBI probe, his government had recommended the case to the CBI.

Speaking to media, Mr. Kumar also expressed surprise over the Mumbai police “not cooperating” with Bihar police officials who had gone there for investigation into the case. “It is surprising that none in Mumbai police is even picking up phone calls of the Bihar DGP”, he wondered. On Monday, he said that “whatever Mumbai police is doing with a Bihar police official is not proper”.

IPS officer quarantined

Young IPS officer Vinay Tiwari, who was sent to Mumbai to lead a four-member Bihar police team for investigation into the case, was said to be “forcibly quarantined” in Mumbai.

BJP MLA and cousin of the deceased actor Neeraj Kumar Singh ‘Bablu’ told The Hindu, “Now as the State government had recommended a CBI inquiry into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case, we believe the truth will come out…we’re thankful to the leaders of all political parties and the Chief Minister as well for recommending the inquiry to CBI”.

Ruling JD(U) leader and party spokesperson Sanjay Singh said, “now those related to the case will come out in the open, though Bihar police too were capable but as it was everyone’s demand the government recommend a CBI inquiry into the case”.

The Opposition RJD and Congress leaders too welcomed the move of the State government for recommending the case to the CBI. On Monday, Bihar legislators had raised an unanimous demand for a CBI probe.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s body was found hanging in his flat in Bandra in Mumbai on June 14. On July 25 his father lodged a case in local Rajiv Nagar police station in Patna against actor Rhea Chakraborty and five others in the death case under different sections ofthe IPC, which included abetment of suicide and cheating.

Later, Rhea Chakraborty pleaded in the Supreme Court to transfer the case from Bihar to Mumbai, which is to be challenged by both the Bihar government and the family of Sushant Singh Rajput. The Supreme Court is likely to hear the case on Wednesday.
