Bardhaman blast: No decision on NIA role

Dhaka wants details of investigation

October 08, 2014 02:56 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:17 pm IST - KOLKATA:

The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party is blaming Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for blocking a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into last Thursday’s blast in Bardhaman. But officials at the Centre said it was the Union government that was yet to decide on handing over the probe to the central agency.

A senior official attached to the NIA in Delhi too said the Home Ministry had “not approached” them to probe the blast, in which two persons were killed. A senior official of the Home Ministry in Delhi said separately that the government is “yet to decide” on an NIA probe.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh has asked India to share with it details of the investigation that point to the hand of Bangladeshi Islamist terror groups, The Hindu has learnt.
