NIA may probe Bengal blast

October 06, 2014 02:47 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:17 pm IST - New Delhi/Kolkata:

Even as the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal came under attack from opposition parties for alleged terror links following the October 2 blast in Bardhaman district reportedly in the house of a party member, a Union Home Ministry official indicated that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) might take over the investigation.

Two men, identified as Shakil Ahmad and Sovon Mondal, were killed in the blast.

“The government has taken cognisance of the incident and may transfer the case to the NIA for further investigations if necessary,” the official said. Preliminary findings by Central agencies indicated that the two men killed in the blast at the house of TMC leader Nurul Hasan Choudhury could be linked to an extremist group.

The local police have purportedly seized several watch dials and SIM cards from the house, rented to Shakil Ahmad.
