People shifted to relief camps after second warning at Prakasam Barrage

All gates lifted, fully-equipped free medical camps set up

A second warning was issued in the early hours of Friday with the outflow of 6,06,704 cusescs of water from the Prakasam Barrage.

All the 70 gates of the Barrage have been fully lifted to facilitate the water outflow coming from Pulichintala Project in Suryapet, Telangana.

Following the warning, residents living in downstream areas of Krishna River, such as Tarakarama Nagar, Bhupesh Gupta Nagar, Ramalingeswara Nagar and Balaji Nagar were evacuated and shifted to three relief camps in the city.

 

“We have set up relief camps at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium (IGMC), Tadikonda Subba Rao Elementary School in Krishnalanka, and Gadde Rammohan Rao Community Hall in Gandhi Nagar, where the flood-affected people will be provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner,” said A.MD. Imtiaz, Collector, Krishna District.

1,200 moved to safety

As of Friday morning, 672 people were shifted to the IGMC stadium, 350 were shifted to Tadikonda Subba Rao Elementary School and 200 to the Gadde Rammohan Rao Community Hall.

 

Iqbal Hussain, VMC Senior Medical Officer said people living in the medical camps will be provided free medical check-ups and medicines.
