A total of 110 inmates staying in SKCV Trust (Children’s Home), located on the banks of River Krishna, were shifted to safer place, as floodwater entered the home.

“All the 100 children and 10 staff of the trust were evacuated as the home is under a sheet of water. All the inmates are safe,” Krishna district Collector A.Md. Imtiaz told The Hindu on Friday.

The private home, which accommodates orphans and semi- orphan children, is located on the river bund at Bhavanipuram in the city.

SKCV Trust Chairman A. Sridhar Reddy said the inmates of the home were studying in different classes, and the home was evacuated as a precautionary measure.

“The staff alerted us over the Krishna flood which entered the home. Immediately, the NGO management shifted the children and staff to another branch of SKCV Trust, at Gandhinagar in the city,” Dr. Sridhar Reddy said.

“As the flood is continuing, an alert has been sounded. We are monitoring the situation and the officials are directed to do patrolling along the river bund to prevent any untoward incidents,” Mr. Imtiaz said.

This was the second time, the home was evacuated in the last three months due to floods. On August 15, inmates of SKCV Trust Children’s Trust were shifted to safer location as floodwater entered the home.

The Trust chairman said about two feet of water entered the home by Thursday night, and as per the directions of the officials the home was vacated immediately.
