A labour inspector was allegedly assaulted and his phone stolen by four men following a row during a traffic jam on Adugodi Main Road on Saturday evening.

The victim, Rajesh C.N., 39, is a resident of Frazer Town. When he was returning home from work, he got stuck in a traffic jam. He asked a group of four men walking on the footpath the reason for the jam. The group allegedly started hurling abuses at him. One of them allegedly attacked Rajesh with a metal bucket kept in front of a shop on the footpath, the police said. As Rajesh began to bleed and cried out for help, the four men fled from the spot.

Rajesh had sustained injuries on his head, and in the melee his phone was missing.

Based on a complaint, the Adugodi police registered a case against the accused charging them with assault, wrongful restrain, unlawful assembly and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.

The police have identified one of the attackers as Naveen based on information provided by residents in and around the scene of crime. Efforts are on to track him down.
