Bomb hoax delays Mumbai-bound train

May 21, 2014 07:52 pm | Updated November 09, 2016 03:00 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Passengers travelling by the Visakhapatnam – Mumbai LTT Express had a harrowing time as a bomb threat delayed its departure by nearly two hours on Tuesday night.

The passengers, railway officials, and police heaved a sigh of relief when no bomb was detected after a thorough search.

“We got a call from the city police at around 11 p.m. that an anonymous caller had dialled ‘DG Dial 100’ and informed them that a bomb was planted on the train. We detained the train and alerted every one. A bomb squad from the city and dog squads from the city and Railway Protection Force (RPF) were pressed into service immediately,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (Government Railway Police) S. Venkata Rao said.

RPF Commissioner Gupta, Railway officials, and the GRP supervised the search operation.

Meanwhile, a dog trainer of the Navy was found carrying dummy bullets, and it added to the commotion.

“We have detained him and informed him that it was wrong to carry even dummy bullets on the train,” Mr. Venkata Rao said.
