An unidentified person, in an e-mail to a district official on Tuesday, said a bomb had been planted on the railway station premises and it might go off at any time.
On being alerted, the city police, the Government Railway Police, the Railway Protection Force, and the South Central Railway officials swung into action and searched the entire premises.
Speaking to The Hindu , GRP Superintendent of Police M. Naganna said, on specific information, the police pressed into service the bomb disposal squad and the sniffer dog team. It was, however, found that the e-mail was hoax.
“The bomb squads thoroughly checked platform Nos. 5 and 6 and the baggage of some passengers. But, we could not find any explosive material,” he said.
Commissioner of Police N. Madhusudhan Reddy said the police launched a search to locate the ID from which the e-mail had come to the official.
“We are trying to find out who has sent the e-mail and from which place. No case has been registered,” the CP said.
