Kundapur police are on a look out for an autorickshaw driver, Vigneshwara, after a woman accused him of rape and cheating. In her complaint, the 22-year-old woman, a distant relative of the driver, said they were having an affair.

She said that about six months ago, Vigneshwara had sexual intercourse with her after promising to marry her.

A couple of months ago, their parents had fixed the wedding. For the past week, Vigneshwara was avoiding her calls. The complaint said, when the woman and her parents went to meet Vigneshwara’s parents, they were threatened and insulted.

A case has been registered against Vigneshwara under Sections 376 (rape) and 420 (cheating) of Indian Penal Code and also a case under Sections 504 (intentional insult to provoke) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against the parents of Vigneshwara.

Vigneshwara is reportedly absconding and the police have formed a team to search for him.
