Neighbour ‘rapes’ woman in Mangalore

A 30-year-old woman was raped allegedly by her neighbour near Ujire on Thursday. Belthangady police, said around noon, Iqbal entered the house when the woman was alone, asking for drinking water. He is alleged to have locked the door and then raped her, said the police. He is also alleged to have threatened to kill her if she complained to the police.

Bike accidents claim 2 A 25-year-old pillion rider died after the motorcycle he was on reportedly slipped near Shishila in Belthangady taluk on Wednesday night. Around 8 p.m., Balakrishna Gowdawas riding home with his friend when the motorcycle veered off the road, said the Puttur Traffic Police. Mr. Gowda succumbed a few hours later in a private hospital in Puttur.

A person died when he was hit by a motorcycle at Jayanti Nagar in Kukkundur village on Wednesday. Mohan Baliga (72) was severely injured and died of his injuries at Kasturba Hospital in Manipal. A case had been registered, the police said.

Complaint against assault victim Two days after five persons were allegedly injured when a mob of at least 13 persons attacked them near Vittal, a woman complained to the Vittal police claiming harassment from the injured. Late on Tuesday night, the five were assaulted for allegedly having talked to four girls from a minority community. On Thursday, a woman claimed that the injured had “stopped her on the road” and asked her “to get into the jeep” with them. While the police have filed a case, they are checking if the complaint was made on the behest of the accused in the case.

Chain snatching

A case of chain snatching has been reported from Kaup on Wednesday. According to the district police, Gulabi Naik had gone to the Hale Marigudi Temple in Kaup. After taking the fruits for offering at the temple, she went near the tap to wash her hands and legs, when an unidentified woman came and snatched her chain and fled . The 20 gram gold chain had been estimated at Rs. 50,000. A case had been registered at Kaup police station.
