Family planning unit for K. Pudur maternity home

It will be ready in three to four months

The Corporation Maternity Hospital at K. Pudur here will soon get a family planning surgery facility.

Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa and City Health Officer V.Yasodha Mani inspected the building being constructed to house the family planning surgery unit at the 24-hour maternity hospital on Thursday.

“It will be ready in three to four months. The maternity centre has been designated as a community health centre and funding was provided through Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission,” Dr.Yasodha Mani told The Hindu .

She said while 20 deliveries took place at the Pudur Maternity Centre in a month on an average, 30 deliveries were performed in November. The 13 maternity homes in the corporation had been performing around 230 deliveries a month, she said.

The Mayor and his team also inspected the ‘Amma Unavagam’ (budget canteen) in K. Pudur and enquired about the quality of food, kitchen infrastructure and drinking water facility. Mr.Rajan Chellappa instructed the canteen staff to maintain sanitation and cleanliness.

Later, he visited the corporation tax collection office in that area and checked the records. Councillor Abuthageer and officials from various departments were present.
