Updated - December 03, 2021 10:38 am IST - MADURAI

Unable to tolerate Jayalalithaa’s conviction in the disproportionate assets case on Saturday, a 17-year-old girl, M. Nagalakshmi, near Elumalai in the district attempted self-immolation on Sunday morning.

The girl, who suffered over 80 per cent burn injuries, has been admitted to the Government Rajaji hospital.

Additional Superintendent of Police Gopalswamy, said that the girl, a beneficiary of free bicycle and laptop schemes introduced by Jayalalithaa, was pained at the arrest of the leader and hence attempted suicide.

The victim, a Plus Two student, doused herself with kerosene at her house in Vangi Narayanapuram, when all other members of the family were away.
