Minister for Water Resources Mathew T. Thomas said on Saturday that every effort must be made to ensure the speedy completion of works promised by the government to the people affected by Cyclone Ockhi.
He was addressing a meeting in Aluva of stakeholders, including officials from the irrigation department, in the wake of people in Chellanam, affected by the cyclone, withdrawing the week-long protest action and relay hunger strike demanding, among other things, immediate building or repair of the seawalls along the coast. The people had also demanded other safety measures for the coastal village.
