“I pleaded to them to leave my son but the family members, including the mother of the girl, killed my son in front of my eyes. It all happened in the middle of the road but no one came to rescue my son. He died in my arms,” said Kamlesh, Ankit’s mother. He was stabbed to death on Thursday night by the family members of a girl with whom he was in a relationship for the past three years.

Ankit, 23, was the only child of Kamlesh and Yash Pal. He had a passion for photography, which he turned into a career after his father, who is a heart patient, retired two years ago.

Before retirement his father used to work as a peon with a private firm.

A policeman said that the girl’s family was fixing her marriage with a man belonging to their community but she was not agreeing to it.

The family members blamed Ankit for this, he added. The girl is pursuing a BA degree through distant learning.

Families had fought

Around three years ago, both the families used to live in the same lane of Raghuvir Nagar, RG flat, but after the girl’s family got to know about the relationship, they shifted to another house in the same locality.

The family of girl was against their relationship and was forcing her to marry a person of their own community, said the police.

“We have discovered that around three ago, when the girl’s family got to know about their relationship, they had a fight with the boy’s family over the issue. The families never had any communication thereafter. We had never received any police complaint regarding any scuffle between the families,” said a police official.

The girl’s mother owns a beauty parlour and her father works as a driver.

We were clueless about the relationship since after they moved, said Kamlesh.

“They all held my son and the girl’s father stabbed him in the neck. He bled profusely and collapsed on the spot. They also kicked and punched him when I tried to save my son. I begged them to spare him but they killed my son mercilessly,” said Ankit’s mother.
