CRICKET

Starc’s five restricts Sri Lanka to 281

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sri Lanka found themselves 9 for 2 after twin strikes from Mitchell Starc.

Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis and captain Angelo Mathews did the rebuilding job. Starc, however, claimed five to restrict the hosts to 281 in their first innings.

Chase’s century leads to unlikely draw

West Indies finally showed some spirit as Roston Chase’s unbeaten century, along with fifties from Jermaine Blackwood, Shane Dowrich and Jason Holder, helped them register a draw, which at one point of the game looked unlikely.

Chase finds himself in elite company as he became the fourth West Indian, and the first after Sir Garfield Sobers, to score a hundred and pick five wickets in an innings in the same Test match.

OLYMPICS

One-fifth of tickets still remain unsold

Nearly 20 per cent of tickets at the Rio Olympics that starts on Friday still remains unsold.

While it is the expensive ones that remain to be filled, tickets available include those that will let the holder watch Usain Bolt’s unprecedented attempt of winning gold again in 100m, 200m and 4x100m.

India eyes biggest medal haul

With over 100 participants competing at the Rio Games representing India, expectations and hopes of achieving the biggest medal haul for the country are very high.

Brazil, USA start with a win

Hosts Brazil and reigning world champions USA got off their women’s football campaign with victories in their respective encounters.
