All dogs, irrespective of their coat length, require regular grooming. Brushing the coat, cleaning the ears and clipping the nails not only help your dog look clean and handsome but also keeps him odourless and free of ticks/fleas. It allows you to inspect your dog’s body for any lumps, injury or even check the condition of his skin and teeth. Regular brushing with dog-friendly toothpaste helps to keep his teeth free of plaque/tartar. Grooming also provides you with an excellent opportunity to earn his trust and bond with him. This prepares your dog for vet visits which involves such handling. If your dog is not accustomed to getting inspected or restrained on a regular basis, do start the process slowly by just introducing the tools to him or clip only one nail a day. If you have a long haired dog or are struggling with grooming in general, I recommend a visit to a professional groomer. They are trained to handle dogs of all temperaments and can help you get kick-started with the right products for your dog’s age and coat type.
