The music concert by R.V. Panduranga Sarma at a function organised by the Association for Carnatic Music, Tirupati, at Mahati auditorium recently, was well received by one and all.
The swelling audience at the association's programmes of late stands testimony to the growing appreciation for pure and pristine Carnatic music.
Sarma learnt music from the Late Mulukutla Sadasiva Sastry, V. Tirupathaiah, V. Balasubramanya Bhagavatar, Puranam Purushothama Sastry and the illustrious D.K. Pattammal.
Working as a special assistant in Indian Overseas Bank at Hyderabad, Sarma has given impressive performances in Tenali, Guntur, Kakinada and Kurnool in the past.
The exhilarating numbers Viriboni in Bhairavi, Purandaradasa's Gajavadana in Kedaram, Swati Tirunal's Bhogendrasaayinam in Kuntala Varali, Bhaja Re in Karnataka Devagandhari, Naanoru Vilayattu in Navarasa Kanada and Annamayya's Itti Mudduladi in Ananda Bhairavi kept the audience engrossed. Sri Thyagaraja's compositions like Srirama Padama in Amrita Vahini and Aparama Bhakti in Pantuvarali were especially well received. K.J. Dilip on violin and Parupalli Balasubrahmanyam on mridangam provided effective accompaniment.
