V idya Balan is sure to raise many eyebrows with her bold and beautiful Silk Smitha-act in Milan Luthria's The Dirty Picture. In high spirits, the actor talks about her different avatar and her comfort level with her three co-stars — Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar.

Your revealing outfits and bold scenes in The Dirty Picture are quite a departure for you. Would you call the scenes obscene?

No, not at all. I have never enjoyed being a woman more than in The Dirty Picture . It celebrates the woman like the rainbow — in all its colours. I just hope this role adds another shade to me as an actor.

At any point, was it uncomfortable for you?

I was not uncomfortable at all. I was very sure I was in very able hands, and that at no point was it going to look sleazy. And if you do anything with conviction, it turns out beautifully.

You worked with Naseeruddin Shah in Ishqiya . So, were you more comfortable with him in this film?

It's an honour working with him. As I've worked with him before, I show my nervousness a little less in front of him now. I don't need to cloak it as much. He is so encouraging without being blatant about it, and I will always be grateful to him for that.

How was the experience of working for the first time with Emraan Hashmi?

I was wondering how it would be with Emraan, I still am ( laughs ). It's been a great deal of fun. Initially, I thought that he didn't talk or and laugh too much. But, now it is the reverse. After seeing Silk (my character), his mouth doesn't remain shut ( laughs ).

And Tusshar?

What can I say? We had a lovely time shooting in Hyderabad. I made sure he stayed back even when he was not shooting because he is such a positive, wonderful person to be around, besides being a fun co-star. He has such straight-faced humour — you don't even know he has cracked a joke… and he has.

With your sari-clad image, how did Milan Luthria think of you for the role?

I don't know how he and Ekta (Kapoor, the producer) could have thought of me for this film, and how Rajat (Aroraa, the writer) could have written so beautifully. If I have done a good job, it is thanks to them. Before I started this film, I had said I was going to hold Milan's hand throughout the film or he was going to take me through it. I didn't know which way it worked, but I just knew I had to trust Milan completely.

You andEkta started together with ‘Hum Paanch' on TV years ago.

Yes, and we have come a long way since. Every film of Ekta's is so different. God's been kind to us.
