Natakhapriya
S.Ve. Shekher
Our latest is ‘CSK,’ inaugurated recently. In one of our shows, the audience wanted a new Tamil name for our play. So henceforth, it is going to be it is going to be ‘S.V. Shekhar’s Nadaka Dharbar.’ We did something similar in 1985, and the title was “Aviyal.” ‘Dharbar’ will have scenes from our repertoire of plays and on the stage I’ll recount some interesting incidents connected to the play. Sample this: Ahead of staging the play written by Cho Ramaswamy, I went to meet him and gave him ten thousand one rupees with a Tirupati Perumal photo. He took just one rupee and the photo.

UAA would love to come out with a new play every year. With modesty I can say that our plays definitely cross 100 shows. I’m yet to think of a new play. Well, Madhu Balaji recently told me that Mohan has written a short story, a murder mystery, which could be developed into a full-length play. I’m looking forward to that.
‘Crazy’ Retro
Theatre Marina and Abbas Cultural have jointly organised a programme, titled ‘CRAZY,’ themed on Crazy Mohan’s contribution to cinema, on July 6, 6.30 p.m., at the Mylapore Fine Arts Club. Clippings from films for which he wrote the story/dialogue will be screened, with RDM Studios as the supporting partner. The crazy light music is supported by ‘Retro 2 Metro.’ The entire Crazy Creations troupe along with his family members will be present on the occasion. Tickets are available at BookMyShow.com and at venue.

Kathadi Ramamurthy
At 82, I prefer to leave the reins in younger hands. But I’m definitely involved in production and of course I do act. Our troupe has given many hits and right now we’re going with “Nandri Meendum Vaanga,” which is also a success. Incidentally, it won several awards in KFA’s summer drama festival. But we have moved on. A knot about society’s latest addiction — mobile phone — is under discussion. It will involve children and might take a few months before it is presented. ‘Entertain and educate’ is my bottomline.
