Seven hundred and ninety-five nominations have been filed for the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in the Telangana, which are going to polls on April 11 as the last date for the submission of nominations expired on Monday.

Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency accounted for a large chunk of 245 nominations, largely those filed by the irate farmers who are demanding appropriate support price for red jowar, while Secunderabad received the next highest, over 67 nominations and Malkajgiri 43 till late Monday evening. Nalgonda Lok Sabha constituency registered 39 nominations and Khammam 34, while Hyderabad Lok Sabha witnessed filing of over 30 nominations as the reports last came in.

The election authorities are anticipating slight rise in the number of nominations as aspiring candidates were still standing in queues in some constituencies. The scrutiny of the nominations would be taken up on Tuesday and March 28 is the last date for withdrawal of the nominations.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar said that the candidates had been asked to ensure that all columns in Form 26 as well as the relevant details in Form A and B are filled, failing which the nominations would be liable for rejection. It was also mandatory that the nominees who proposed the candidature of the aspiring candidates of national and State recognised parties should be voters of the respective constituencies.

Mr. Rajat Kumar said the election authority had published the final electoral rolls for the forthcoming elections with the number of voters remaining close to 2.97 crore, marginally higher than 2.96 crore voters of the recent Assembly elections. Hyderabad district with 41.77 lakh electors has the highest number of voters and Wanaparthy with 2.47 lakh has the lowest in terms of voter population. He said the election authority had so far seized ₹ 10.09 crore cash and liquor worth ₹ 2.04 crore. Narcotics worth ₹ 2.45 crore were seized during one raid and total cash seizure so far was ₹ 14.79 crore.
