Former IPS officer and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Chief Ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi appears to be registered as a voter from two addresses in Delhi. Sources in the Election Commission said that legal action may be initiated if an application has not been filed to cancel one of the two cards.
Ms. Bedi has been issued two voter identity cards with different addresses – one from Talkatora Lane in New Delhi area and the other from Uday Park in South Delhi. The latter is the residential address she mentioned in her nomination papers to contest the February 7 polls.
With just over a week left for the Delhi elections, the Election Commission will examine how she was issued two voter identity cards and investigate if she has applied for deletion of the first entry with Talkatora Lane address.
The card with Uday Park address carries voter ID number TZD1656909 whereas the other one with the address 2 Kothi, Talkatora Lane has the number SJE0047969.
Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi Chandra Bhushan Kumar said he did not wish to comment on the issue. He, however, mentioned the “simple process” in such a situation. “After freezing of electoral rolls, we distribute voter slips to electors. If the persons are not available at the indicated address, their names go into the ASD (Absent, Shifted, Dead) List which takes care of this issue,” he said, adding the distribution of photo voter slips will begin soon in the city.
