Wipro Ltd., the country’s third largest IT services company, has sacked about 600 employees, according to a source.
The company did not confirm the number of people it has asked to leave but said the move was part of an “appraisal process.”
“Wipro undertakes a rigorous performance appraisal process on a regular basis to align its workforce with the business objectives, strategic priorities of the organisation, and requirements of our clients,” Wipro said in an email response.
“This systematic and comprehensive performance evaluation process triggers a series of actions such as mentoring, retraining and upskilling. The performance appraisal may also lead to the separation of some employees from the company and these numbers vary from year to year,” it added.
More on cards
According to some employees Wipro is likely to axe more people from the mid-level managerial roles. Earlier, there were media reports that Wipro will reduce its headcount by about 30% due to automation.
