Chennai Port takes up projects worth Rs.200 cr

The Chennai Port Trust has taken up six projects at a cost of over Rs.200 crore to strengthen its capacities and to brace up for competition from neighbouring ports.

The Rajya Sabha heard that Chennai Port had taken up major projects such as construction of coastal berth, two EXIM godowns, development of eastern seashore road, passenger cruise terminal, development of common railway yard and solar roof top 400 MW.

“Out of the two EXIM godowns, one will be ready in the next few weeks and another by August 2016. Coastal berth may be completed by next fiscal,”a port official said.
