Big one: Assam skipper Dheeraj Jadhav celebrates after scoring a double century against Tripura

Assam captain Dheeraj Jadhav scored the season’s first Ranji Trophy double-century and powered his side to a strong position against Tripura in a Group C match on Saturday.

The 33-year-old left-hander’s 243 (462b, 30x4, 1x6) was his 21st first-class three-figure score. Jadhav put on 213 for the sixth wicket with J. Syed Mohammad, who made 89.

Assam could only add 21 after Jadhav was dismissed and finished with 450.

Tripura slid to 72 for three before stumps on the second day.

The scores (round one, day two): Group A: At Kolkata: Bengal 258 in 78.4 overs (Subhomoy Das 95, Manoj Tiwary 42, Wriddhiman Saha 59, Pankaj Singh five for 50) vs. Rajasthan 63 for four in 31 overs.

At Indore: Gujarat 355 in 101 overs (Parthiv Patel 162, Venugopala Rao 45, Manprit Juneja 59, Anand Rajan seven for 77) vs. Madhya Pradesh 212 for eight in 77 overs (Naman Ojha 71, Udit Birla 49).

At Mumbai: Mumbai 570 in 151 overs (Aditya Tare 47, Ajinkya Rahane 129, Sachin Tendulkar 137, Abhishek Nayar 107 n.o., Ramesh Powar 41) vs. Railways 86 for two in 28 overs.

At Mohali: Hyderabad 258 in 96.3 overs (Akshath Reddy 63, Ibrahim Khaleel 41 M.S. Gony four for 60) vs. Punjab 243 for no loss in 81 overs (Jiwanjot Singh 116 batting, Karan Goel 106 batting).

Group B: At Baroda: Baroda 406 in 123.4 overs (Aditya Waghmode 129, Irfan Pathan 121, Stuart Binny five for 65) vs. Karnataka 148 for two in 55 overs (K.B. Pawan 56, Robin Uthappa 67 batting).

At Rohtak: Haryana 55 and 103 for three in 44 overs (Nitin Saini 46) vs. Vidarbha 205 in 79 overs (Shrikant Wagh 44).

At Ghaziabad: Delhi 235 vs. Uttar Pradesh 292 for six in 95.4 overs (Mukul Dagar 116, Mohammad Kaif 91).

Group C: At Ananthapur: Services 256 for eight in 108 overs (Rajat Paliwal 72, Muzzaffaruddin Khalid 41 batting) vs. Andhra.

At Nadaun: Kerala 229 in 82 overs (Sanju Samson 127 n.o.) vs. Himachal Pradesh 250 for four in 78 overs (Paras Dogra 121, C. Hemant Kumar 45).

At Jammu: Jammu & Kashmir 195 vs. Jharkhand 354 for eight in 116 overs (Rameez Nemat 75, Saurabh Tiwary 72, S.P. Gautam 80).

At Guwahati: Assam 450 in 152.5 overs (Dheeraj Jadhav 243, Gokul Sharma 41, J. Syed Mohammad 89, Timir Chanda five for 74) vs. Tripura 72 for three in 27 overs.
