The Supreme Court on Thursday declined a plea by the Cricket Association of Bihar to restrain former BCCI president N. Srinivasan from participating in the International Cricket Council election scheduled for June 27.
In an urgent motion before a Vacation Bench of Justice J.S. Khehar and Justice C. Nagappan, the association objected to Mr. Srinivasan contesting the ICC election, for which nominations are to be filed on June 23. It reasoned that Mr. Srinivasan’s participation would be in violation of the court’s order directing him not to serve in any offices of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The association “questioned” the propriety of the ICC in “hosting” Mr. Srinivasan when he had already given an undertaking that he would not act as the BCCI chief till the investigation into the IPL controversy is over. The Bench observed that there was no conflict and the order was very clear.
