Making a fresh appeal to all political parties to break the deadlock in Parliament over instituting a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe the 2G spectrum scam, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said here on Friday that an all-party meeting had been called shortly to discuss the issue.
Ms. Kumar, however, declined to comment on whether a special session would be held on the demand for a JPC probe.
In the winter session, business was stalled for 22 days in a row over the Opposition's demand for a JPC probe, while the United Progressive Alliance government stood firm on a probe by the Parliamentary Accounts Committee.
“We all are worried about the present situation. Dialogue is the only way to end the impasse. We are again calling an all-party meeting and I am hopeful that a solution will come out,” Ms. Kumar said at a function organised by four chambers of commerce.
Pointing out the peculiarity of Parliament, which functions through representation from 37 different parties, she said situations could not always be expected to be “tailor-made,” and pledged the “highest regard” for the members.
“I believe none of the MPs wants people to develop a misconception that the democratic fabric is being damaged by the impasse. Democracy is all about striking the middle-path out from contradictory thoughts,” Ms. Kumar said.
