While demanding close monitoring of the CBI probe into the 2G spectrum scam, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Friday said that if necessary the Supreme Court should constitute a special investigating agency if there were doubts about it.
A resolution adopted in the district committee meeting urged the Supreme Court to directly monitor the probe and protect Indian democracy by bringing the culprits to book.
The meeting attended by party general secretary Vaiko said doubts had been cast on the functioning of the CBI because the Congress government tried to cover up the issue for two years and the possible involvement of influential people.
“Moreover, the CBI visited corporate lobbyist Niira Radia's residence instead of grilling her in the office of the investigative agency,” the resolution added.
Another resolution made a strong case for probe by Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into the alleged irregularities in the Commonwealth Games and asked the democratic forces to create awareness among the people about the irregularities.
“Both the Congress and the UPA government led by it should take responsibility for the issue,” the resolution further said.
A resolution decided to educate the youth about the need to create a separate Eelam. The MDMK also warned that it would prevent transportation of vegetables, rice, dhall, milk and cattle to Kerala if the State government there caused any damage to the Mullaperiyar Dam or built a new dam.
“We love the people of Kerala. But the attitude of the Kerala government will only damage the relationship between the two States. It will also pose a great threat to national integration,” another resolution said.
