West Bengal rape suspect arrested

The girl has been admitted to a hospital and is undergoing treatment

A 16-year-old boy suspected to have raped a five-year-old girl inside a local Bharatiya Janata Party office at Behala in south-west Kolkata was arrested on Saturday.

The accused is a resident of the same locality.

On Saturday, the accused was produced before a Juvenile Justice Board, which sent him to a judicial custody till February 16.

The girl has been admitted to a hospital and is undergoing treatment.

“Doctors said she had bleeding injuries on her private parts,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West Division, Rashid Munir Khan, told The Hindu here on Saturday.

“The father of the accused runs a shop beside the BJP office where the key of the office is kept. The accused took the key from there,” BJP spokesperson Ritesh Tewari said.
