The wife of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar on Wednesday demanded that a narco test be conducted of him and as well as of the minor from Unnao, who has accused her husband of gang-raping her along with his accomplices.

Sangeeta Singh Sengar placed the demand before Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police O.P. Singh here. She is a zilla panchayat head in Unnao, a post she won in 2015 while her husband was with the Samajwadi Party.

“Even without a probe, they have already declared him a rapist. They must conduct a narco test of my husband and that girl,” Ms. Sengar told reporters.

She alleged that there was a “political issue” behind the rape allegation against her husband, who she said was being “made a pawn.”

“My husband is innocent... I have full sympathy for that girl. Her honour is being torn to shreds,” Ms. Sengar said. She added that the media labelling her husband as a rapist was causing mental harassment to the family.

Court to hear case on Thursday

Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the case and decided to hear it on April 12.

The special investigation team constituted by the government to prove the entire issue, the gang-rape allegations as well as the custodial death of the victim’s father, is already in Unnao and is expected to submit a preliminary report to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. There is heavy police presence in the village while the minor girl has been shifted to a district guest house and is under police protection.

“All angles are being investigated,” ADGP Lucknow Zone Rajiv Krishnan, who is monitoring the special investigation team, told reporters in Unnao.
