Accusing a female journalist and two camerapersons of a local Bengali television channel of trying to kill Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in the wee hours of Wednesday, the Trinamool Congress filed a first information report against the trio at a police station at Bidhannagar in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.
According to Ms. Banerjee, a private car with a press sticker chased her convoy and tried to dash against her car while she was on her way back home from a dinner invitation at well-known painter Suvaprasanna’s residence .
She alleged that the three persons in the car were unable to furnish identity cards when pulled up by her security personnel.
Trinamool Congress leader and Union Minister of State for Shipping, Mukul Roy, who was accompanying Ms. Banerjee when the incident occurred , said it was a “conspiracy to kill her.”
The journalist and the camerapersons lodged a separate report with the police at the same police station alleging that they were manhandled by Trinamool leaders.
“The case is being inquired upon since both the parties have filed reports with the police. A primary report has been already sent to the higher officials,” Shubhankar Bhattacharya, sub-divisional police officer (Bidhannagar), told The Hindu.
