The Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF) has accused the Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University (Central) of being disrespectful and uncompassionate towards indigenous students.
The TSF is an independent tribal students’ group that is part of the Northeast Students’ Organisation — an umbrella organisation of all students’ associations in the Northeast.
On Thursday, the TSF organised a march on campus and submitted a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Professor Anjan Kumar Bose. “It appeared from your conduct and dealing that you are not respectful and compassionate to the indigenous population of Tripura. Your behaviour and nepotism have hurt the sentiments of the State’s tribal community,” the memorandum read.
The TSF has also sent a copy of the memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Union Human Resource Development Minister and the University Grants Commission, seeking their intervention.
Corruption alleged
Alleging corruption with regard to the appointment of non-teaching staff, including that of the librarian and finance officer, the TSF claimed that the V-C had violated existing reservation procedure. “In all appointments, including contractual and casual, you have failed to maintain fairness and transparency, and also prevented entry of competent and qualified persons, which downgraded the quality of education at the university,” it added.
Devid Debbarma, chief organising secretary of the TSF, said the student’s body had put forth eight demands before the V-C and appraised him of controversial appointments, including that of a media-cum-public relation consultant. Mr. Doberma added that the university administration was flouting rules and policy with regard to appointments.
