Three held for assaulting a Muslim family on train

A Muslim family was brutally assaulted and looted by a gang of men while they were travelling in a train in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. The victims suffered fractures in hand, leg and internal injuries in head and stomach.

The video of the assault and pleading of the victims went viral after which the GRP filed a case and detained three men. The video shows about 30 youths armed with rods and sticks abusing the family and banging the coach from outside in which they were travelling. Later the group of men jumped inside the train from emergency window by breaking the glass panel and using the emergency break.

According to fifty three years old Shakir, the head of the family which was attacked, the culprits singled them out by seeing the veil clad women and attacked them with rods, in Shikohabad-Kasgang passenger train.

“We were attacked with rods. These men not only robbed us but also molested the women of my family travelling with us. These people did not even have pity on my seventeen years old mentally challenged son,” Shakir, a resident of Kaimgang of Farrukhabad district told the media while showing his severe head injury and fracture in the right hand.

According to the Superintendent of Police O P Singh, “During the assault those who sufferred injuries inlude Shakir, his wife Asiya, daughter Arsi, three sons, Arasan, Faizan and Fizu, his brother Arif, nephew Asif, brother in law Shaheed and two sisters Shehnaz and Menaz. Four of them sustained head injuries, four suffered hand fractures, and all of the eleven members of the family had internal stomach bleeding”.

Mr. Singh said that a case under section 395 of the IPC was registered but more sectionns will be added during the probe.

“'They shouted that these people are mulle and let us beat them'. When they jumped inside the train they groped the women, snatched their chains. When some of the passengers tried to rescue us, they attacked them too after which the passengers left for other coaches,” said Shakir adding that at Farrukhabad station the GRP took them to the hospital to do their medical examination.
