Tehelka magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Tarun Tejpal’s application for a special cell at the Sada Central Jail, Vasco in south Goa, where the accused in the sexual assault and rape case was remanded to 12 days of judicial custody on Wednesday, was withdrawn by his lawyers from the Judicial Magistrate’s Court here on Friday.

Mr. Tejpal had filed the application before the Judicial Magistrate First Class Panaji Bosco Roberts on Wednesday seeking a special cell in the jail soon after he was remanded to judicial custody.

His lawyers had moved the application pleading for a special cell, raising concerns about threats to his safety and security in view of him being an investigative journalist who had possibly antagonised people with different backgrounds including criminal, political and corporate.
